Like in other cities, many Baltimore residents stick with who they know, largely limiting their access to those who are familiar or share commonalities. Our city’s geography, customs, and years of tradition have hardened the boundaries making it even more difficult to engage and connect with others outside of our normal routine. Although this isn’t unique and happens in communities across the country, our City can’t afford to continue business as usual. We must do better so we can be better. We are in a moment where we need to strengthen real engagement around a movement to propel our City forward. This movement needs to encompass the ENTIRE city.
One of the first steps in moving beyond the divides in our community is building relationships with our fellow Baltimoreans so that we can increase awareness and empathy.
So we introduce, KINDLING.
Kindling participants will engage in three guided one-on-one conversations. These conversations will take place with randomly selected participants.
The goal of these conversations is to share our stories, discover our commonalities, and explore the possibilities for how to bridge our divides.
